Ginger Bread Cookies

Fabulous Gingerbread from Sarah

A healthy treat for the holidays

-1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
-3/4 cup all purpose flour
-1 1/2 teapspoons baking powder
-1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, finely grated
-1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
-dash of salt
-dash of ground cloves
-1 tablespoon brown sugar
-1/2 cup shortening
-2/3 cup fancy mollasses
-3 tablespoons hot water

Sift together all dry ingredients. In a separate bowl cream shortening, then beat in mollasses followed by water.  Add dry ingredients to wet.  Form into a dough and shape into a ball.  Cover ball with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.  Roll dough and cut into desired shapes.  Bake at 350 degrees just until cookies start to brown.
